Showcase 2010: Plant Tour

We've arrived in Minneapolis and are ready for this year's Showcase! In case you missed my posts from last year, Showcase is Creative Memories' annual event to release new products, announce company changes, and motivate hundreds of CM Consultants from all over the country. It's held in Minneapolis each year (except for last year, when the event was regional and we ended up in Anaheim).

On our first day in MN, there were some optional events to participate in while consultants arrived throughout the day. The Husband and I (yes, he's here... as my guest... which pretty much means he's joining me for meals and not much else) chose to travel up to St. Cloud to see the CM plant.

I had no idea what to expect while there, so I took a bunch of pictures to catalog the experience!

I was immediately excited upon seeing all the CM boxes. I'm very much interested in getting a "behind the scenes" look at how things work, especially for a company that I'm so dedicated to!

After watching where the boxes are made and folded (I'll spare you from THOSE photos), we watched the boxes move along a conveyor belt as workers added the products to them that had been ordered.

There seemed to be quality checks at every turn, and I was impressed by how many times these boxes were checked for accuracy before being sealed up and shipped.

After checking out how our products are shipped, we headed to a different part of the plant, where they were printing and assembling our digital products.

And again, there were quality checks at every step. Workers are constantly scanning bar codes to make sure the right customer is getting the right product, opening the albums to check the inside, and running their hands over the covers and bindings to make sure everything came out smoothly. Very impressive!

Next, we learned all about how traditional albums are made, including the colored embossing on the front. Check out this cover that we were shown- it's brand new!

After seeing where pages and page protectors are made and packaged, we ended our tour with a quick presentation on CM's Green Facility Initiative. They've taken incredible steps to preserve resources, cut energy usage, and make the plant a more responsible place of employment. It was great to hear!

What a treat!
