After a brief demo by yours truly, the attendees started laying out their photos:
The next step involved cropping the photos. The attendees had the option of cropping their photos into circles/ovals, trimming off the sides, or leaving their photos in the original 4x6 format. There were guidelines for them to follow as far as how many of each shape they could include in a 2-page spread, to ease the decision-making process for them.

Once the photos were cropped, it was time for color! Each attendee had selected a Power Palette to use, which provided them with a set of coordinated paper, photo mats, titles, and stickers. They selected their paper and trimmed it according to guidelines I taught them at the beginning of the workshop. The typically painstaking process of choosing colors, designs, and layouts was minimized to a quick and efficient process that was a breeze!
After placing their background colors on the page and matting their photos, the attendees arranged each 2-page spread into a balanced layout with the 4-6 photos they had chosen.

At this point, our workshop was just about done, but the albums had just a few steps left. The attendees stacked up each of their pages.....

... placed them in their Power Layout Box....
... and headed home. The whole album is in that 12x12 black box (called the Power Layout Kit), so their homework is to adhere the pieces (paper, photos, photo mats) onto the page, and add any stickers, titles, and journaling they need in order to finish off each layout. This final step of the process should take them no longer than 1 hour at home (unless a lot of journaling is required, in which case, they may need up to 1.5 or 2 hours).
Karen's plan is to adhere and finish off her album while watching the Olympics. Ululani and Tina are going to find an hour this week to finish theirs, and I will be contacting all of them over the weekend to see if it is done (oh, the things we can accomplish with a deadline!).
Overall, this Power Palette Layout workshop was a success! The attendees did a fantastic job with their albums, and they all mentioned that a second workshop might be in order, as they all have more albums in mind that they'd like to create.
